    Did you know?

Animal agriculture is responsible for over 70% of global freshwater consumption, 18% of greenhouse gas emissions, the use of 38% of the world’s total land area, 90% of the deforestation of the amazon, among other alarming facts.

    Raising awareness of
    the environmental
    impact of food
    production and consumption

Producing food affects the soil, the forests, the lakes, the oceans, the air. Unsustainable food production practices over the recent decades have altered the ecosystems of our planet, making it an urgent priority to begin reversing those negative effects.

Shifting the food consumption habits of the global population is one of the most powerful tools to pressure the food industry to adopt more ethical and sustainable practices . That is why one of the pillars of the Foundation is to raise awareness on this matter, and help people adopt a more responsible diet, such as reducing meat consumption and increasing the proportion of sustainably produced food.

    • Sponsor awareness campaigns and the production of educational materials, in partnership with private companies, governments, NGOs and influencers acting for this cause.
    • Conduct workshops in Pure Salmon facilities and participate to events dedicated to the impact of responsible food production and consumption.

    Enhance employment
    in the land-based
    Aquaculture sector
With this we will create new career opportunities to local populations

Land-based aquaculture has the power to provide the world with unlimited healthy and clean protein, and produce it anywhere in an environmentally friendly manner. Hence, the development of the RAS aquaculture industry promises a brighter future for our planet and its population,  with projections that confirm a tremendous growth potential over the next decades. To support this scenario, the Foundation will invest in education to induce more careers in this sector, which will in turn enhance progress and innovation within the industry.

    • Develop aquaculture programs specialized in RAS technology in partnership with experts and Universities all around the world which would ensure perfect employability to its graduates
    • Sponsor the formation of unprivileged young people by financing their tuition fees and their internships

Salmon is very low in saturated fat and a great source of protein. It is charged in omega-3 fatty acids, which lower the chance to have cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancer, dementia and other cognitive diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, among others. It’s also one of the best sources of vitamin B12, filled with potassium and other nutrients like iron and vitamin D. Experts consider salmon as one of the healthiest food in the world.

Incentivize people to adopt a healthier diet
‘We are what we eat’ and a healthier diet directly leads to a happier life.

That is why Pure Salmon and 8F Foundation will lead several initiatives to empower people by helping them making the right food choices, particularly dedicated to the people who have limited or no access to the right information.

    • Work in partnership with doctors, local schools, NGOs and private companies to create educative/informative materials about the consequences of food choices, for parents and for children.
    • Distribute free salmon based meals to children

    FIRST INITIATIVES IN LESOTHO

The Foundation will be created at the launch of the founding project in the Kingdom of Lesotho, a facility producing 20,000 tons of salmon per annum, based in Butha-Buthe Highland region of the country. The farm will be developed in partnership with the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) and is predicted to have annual revenues accounting for 8% of the country’s GDP and generate 250 jobs locally.

The first three commitments of the Foundation focused on Lesotho are:

    • Sponsor an Advanced Aquaculture program at the National University of Lesotho. This is an ambitious plan to provide an enhanced learning program in conjunction with a Canadian University and Pure Salmon.
    • Fund 15 international internships for students per year initially at Pure Salmon’s facility in Poland and then at the facility in Lesotho once it is operational, where they will gain important on-the-job training.
    • One million free salmon meals per year will be provided to local schools and orphanages for children under the age of 18 in the Butha-Buthe region, during the first 10 years of the facility’s operation.
